The atomic charge in carbon causes the contaminant particles in water to detach from the water and attach to carbon. This means that even the soluble contaminants will be eliminated from water.

But chlorine often ends up being harmful to the human body especially if the amount used exceeds the recommended quantity. Chlorine also exists naturally in water which means that it can be found even in river water. Furthermore, chlorine is known to be very stubborn as it cannot be removed using the granular filtration process. The carbon in pitcher water filters easily gets rid of chlorine. Chlorine is automatically attracted to the carbon atoms and rarely will any of these chlorine particles go past the water filter.
